Hyperscale is longlisted for an FT award!

We’re less than two months out from the release of my new book Hyperscale, and the good news keeps coming! In August, the book made the longlist for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award 2026 — a great sign that early readers are resonating with my critical exploration of the data center buildout.

Paired with that endorsement, Publishers Weekly said “this revelatory account is difficult to ignore,” and Kirkus wrote that Hyperscale is a “timely, vigorously researched and written work of tech and advocacy journalist.” Much more to come on the review front.

It’s honestly hard to believe the moment Hyperscale is arriving in. Data centers have become a huge issue that people across the United States and in many other parts of the world are deeply concerned about, pushing them to oppose and even stop the tech industry’s projects. They’re right to be worried, and Hyperscale lays out not only the reason why, but also argues it doesn’t have to be like this. The future doesn’t have to look like the one tech billionaires are building for the rest of us; but if we want a different future, we need to wrench power out of their hands.

Anyway, if you haven’t preordered your copy yet, you can do it now. Preorders are really helpful to authors because they signal interest to booksellers, and make it more likely they’ll order more copies and promote it more prominently to their customers. (If you don’t recognize that cover, it’s the UK version! The one I usually share is from the US/Canada version of the book.)

For the audiobook listeners out there, I have more good news: Not only will there be an audiobook for Hyperscale, but I will be narrating it! I was in studio for a few days at the end of August to read the book so you can all listen to it come October. If you’re used to listening to Tech Won’t Save Us, you’ll soon be able to listen to me reading Hyperscale to you!
